Space Station Leader
·2 min read·256 words
I found myself leading a futuristic faction. We were embarking on a journey destined to change humanity forever: to construct a space station with a capacity of 200 million. Starting from a small planet, this feat had never been attempted, making me a hero among my people. As construction began, I delegated authority and collaborated closely with scientists to discover essential technologies for the station. A ten-year timelapse unfolded, chronicling the station's construction, much of which involved me and the scientists discovering how to build our own star and harness its energy.
After those ten years, the station was all but complete. During this time, I had a child who was now acting out. I tracked him down, realizing he had run away to our home world. I decided to go after him but first informed the crew. Over the years, I had gradually stepped back from my absolute authority, empowering others. Finally, I approached the captain of the people and told him of my intent. He denied my request. I explained that the station was complete, and it was time for me to seek new horizons. I needed to plan for my succession and determine if my son was ready for the challenge. He still refused. I then reasserted my absolute authority, reminding him that the station was ultimately under my leadership. I had made it a symbol of humanity's mastery of space and accomplished all I promised my leadership would deliver. I declared I was leaving and wished him luck with his own leadership.
