Ascension, Combat, and Counsel
·4 min read·681 words
Waking within the dream, I faced a choice: return to my parents, symbolizing my past, or ascend into the skies, representing an uncertain future. I chose ascension, but it was dark. Instead of flying, I found myself morphing through endless ceilings, each layer becoming more difficult to traverse.
Eventually, I materialized in my completely dark kitchen. A flash outside revealed what looked like an alien. Despite my fear, voiced aloud, I went outside, but it had vanished. I then pondered if I could fly.
As I moved, I attracted the attention of space marine-type figures. I did something that offended them, prompting me to flee (fly). However, hearing a scream, I feared someone was being blamed for my actions, so I flew back, uncertain if I could handle the situation. Upon returning, they attempted to attack, but their efforts were futile; I was invisible. I flew around while they fruitlessly tried to hunt me down. Throughout this, I was conversing with a voice, presumably linked to the alien. The voice asked what hero name I desired. After some thought, I hesitantly offered my gamer tag, "GodEmperor," but quickly retracted it, fearing it sounded too narcissistic. The voice countered, "Not necessarily. Consider what you fight for and against, and how that name could be a symbol." We left the decision undecided.
I then flew into a completely dark, abandoned place. Finding a small, dim torch, I resolved to try firebending. My first attempt failed, but I tried again, carefully bundling the torch with some wood. I then decided to try drawing fire *in* rather than pushing it out, which worked. Subsequently, pushing fire *out* also became successful. I could now walk around, using my firebending as a source of light.
Dropping into a courtyard filled with people, someone immediately picked a fight. Unsure how to react, the voice urged me to "think on my feet." I defended myself. When another assailant approached, I tried earthbending, but my skills were quite poor. Each successive enemy seemed to improve. At one point, I attacked someone who hadn't even engaged me, prompting the voice to exclaim, "Whoa, what did you do?" I acknowledged my mistake.
I was then placed in a house where a girl, representing a stripper from my past, appeared. She tried to suffocate me. Initially, I tried to restrain her, but she persisted, so I decided to kill her. Being free from her felt significant, perhaps symbolizing release from lust.
I found myself outside my house again, in the familiar darkness. The voice began to offer advice on finding the path I sought. Unsure if it was genuine counsel or merely a lesson, I told it I had tried those things many times, only to fail. The voice responded, "It won't fail forever."
We continued talking, and at one point, the voice invited me to ask it anything. I sensed it was preparing for a profound question, but I was weary of such inquiries, feeling I never gained anything from them. So, looking at the clouds in the sky, I asked, "How many clouds are there?" — a playful question with no real answer, just to be different. The voice's mood shifted dramatically, from an "here we go again" expectation of deep questions to an appreciative "Wow, that's why I like you; you often go in an unexpected direction, leading to creation."
We discussed many things, eventually addressing my loneliness and lack of close relationships. We explored various scenarios, concluding with the topic of older women, which brought to mind a friend I have.
I was then transported to a room filled with countless dead body parts. I walked around completely unfazed, even playing with some of them. I jokingly asked if we were there to handle the dead or to kill someone. The answer remained a mystery.
Finally, the voice told me to "stand up." I then flashed to an image of myself on the ground, upside down, headfirst. The voice repeated, "Stand up." I replied, "Can't you see I'm doing a stand-up?" I laughed, then woke up in real life.
