Lucid Between World
·3 min read·653 words
I found myself outside a bustling, crowded mall. Fully lucid and aware I was dreaming, I decided to enter the mall, with no particular objective in mind. Among the throng, I recognized several faces from my high school friend group. Seeing everyone struggle to enter, I simply chose to teleport inside. The interior was largely a vast arcade, but after a short while, I grew disinterested and sought the exit.
As I walked, I tripped, and looking back, I saw the face of a high school friend whose presence always stirred a sense of chaos within me, not due to animosity, but because of the tumultuous nature of his life. However, I remained unreactive. In the dream, I took a deep breath, still fully aware it was just a dream. Reaching the exit, I inexplicably decided to get some food, though I had no intention of eating it later. While waiting, I conversed with the cashier. She spoke incessantly, appearing tense. When I asked why, she confessed a fear of silence making the interaction awkward.
I told her that silence itself doesn't create awkwardness; it's one's own feeling of awkwardness that projects it. As our conversation continued, I received my food, and people behind me grew impatient. I reiterated, 'When you are silent and you don't feel awkward, then nothing *is* awkward.' To seemingly illustrate this, I continued talking, causing the people behind me to become even more impatient and awkward. Before leaving, I concluded, 'So, even when you keep talking, things *can* be awkward.' As I walked away, she looked at the impatient crowd and seemed to grasp the point.
Stepping into the parking lot, I decided I would drive, despite knowing I was dreaming and unsure if I possessed a key for any car. The first car I saw was a red Lamborghini. I checked my pocket and found a key, seemingly for the Lamborghini. I dropped it, and as I picked it up, both the key and the car transformed into a normal, unremarkable vehicle. I thought nothing of it and got in. As I was getting in, I overheard two women exclaiming, 'Wow, that's such a new and expensive car!' though I still perceived it as ordinary. Still, I didn't give it much thought.
I started driving, and one of the women appeared to push her child in front of the car. Knowing I was in a dream, I allowed the car to morph through the child, who remained unharmed. However, the woman jumped into the car and declared she would sue me for nearly running over her child. As we started driving, not wanting to dream about a court case, I told her she could have the car and climbed out.
Seamlessly and suddenly, I found myself in a different world: a post-apocalyptic landscape where nature had completely reclaimed the city. I was dressed only in clothes adorned with grass. Looking around in amazement, I spotted what appeared to be a giant tree, hundreds of times larger than any I had ever seen. It was as immense as a mountain, reaching towards the sky. Unable to see it completely, I decided to walk to a better vantage point. After getting a clearer view, I decided to climb to the top of a nearby complex to sit and obtain an even better perspective. As I ascended this overgrown structure, dusk began to settle.
While climbing, I heard a disembodied voice, unmistakably Gandhi's, speaking of letting the 'fire burn out,' reaching Nirvana, and Moksha. By the time I reached the summit, it was completely dark, and the giant tree was no longer visible. Despite the darkness, I felt no fear. I intended to meditate there, but the very top of the building was a sharp, pointed triangle. So, I decided to climb down slightly. Before I could fully descend, I found myself poised to sit in mid-air, preparing to meditate.
